Tagus Pavilion

A public pavilion on the river front: one folded concrete roof on six inclined legs, lit from below at night so the structure reads from across the water.

One roof, open on every side

The city asked for shelter for markets, concerts and the people who simply wait for the ferry. We answered with a single roof and no walls, so the river and the plaza run underneath it.

The folded slab spans 32 metres on six inclined legs. A continuous LED line is set into the fold, turning the underside into a lantern after dark.

At night the pavilion is drawn in one line of light. By day it is mostly shadow.

Built for the river

Marine-grade concrete, stainless fixings and a drained plaza mean the structure can take salt air and the occasional flood without fuss.
